Meet Jessica

Why am I running for re-election?

I am running for re-election to the Marquette City Commission because I have a deep and abiding love for this community that I am proud to call home. Over the past three years of serving on the Commission, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact our decisions can have on the lives of our residents. Marquette is not just a place to me; it’s a way of life. I want to ensure that this beautiful area continues to thrive and grow, offering opportunities for future generations. As a mother, I think about the future my son will inherit, and I want him to have the same sense of pride and belonging in this community that I do. I want him to have the option to raise his own family here one day, surrounded by the same natural beauty and vibrant culture that make Marquette so special.

Background, Skills, & Experience

My experience as a City Commissioner in Marquette has been incredibly rewarding. Serving the community has given me invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities that our city faces. Being the Executive Director of the UP Children’s Museum has deepened my understanding of the importance of accessible education and community engagement. It has taught me the significance of investing in our youth and providing them with the resources they need to thrive. Additionally, my previous experience as the General Manager of Jeffrey’s Restaurant gave me valuable skills in budget management, team leadership, and customer service. These skills have proven to be incredibly beneficial, as I understand the importance of fiscal responsibility and maintaining a strong sense of community. My diverse professional background has allowed me to approach my role as a Commissioner from a holistic perspective, ensuring that I can make informed decisions that positively impact the lives of Marquette.

Issues:

I believe that our community is facing three critical challenges that demand our immediate attention and thoughtful solutions. First and foremost, our city’s budget is a pressing concern. We must work diligently to ensure fiscal responsibility, prioritizing essential services while finding innovative ways to manage our finances efficiently. Second, is the issue of housing affordability and availability. We need to address the housing crisis by promoting responsible development, fostering partnerships, and exploring creative housing solutions to accommodate our growing population. Finally, safeguarding our environment is crucial. We must take proactive measures to protect our natural resources, preserve our stunning landscapes, and embrace sustainable practices that will benefit both current and future generations. These three issues require a collaborative effort from the City Commission and our community to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for Marquette.
